BVI FSC APPOINTS DR MICHELLE L. TODMAN SMITH AS DEPUTY REGISTRAR
Tortola, British Virgin Islands – 7 February 2025 – The BVI Financial
Services Commission (the Commission) is pleased to announce the
appointment of Dr Michelle L. Todman Smith as Deputy Registrar of
Corporate Affairs. In this new role, Dr Todman Smith will head the
operations of the Registry of Corporate Affairs and support the
Registrar in advancing key operational and strategic priorities. She
has a background in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and
financial supervision and has accumulated over two decades of
experience within the financial services sector. Dr Todman Smith’s
professional experience includes several high-level appointments
within the financial services industry and the Commission, such as
Deputy Director of Banking Supervision and Asia Representative in Hong
Kong and head of operations in other private sector capacities. Her
experience extends to pension management and investment services,
further strengthening the approaches she will embody in her new role
with the Commission. Registrar of Corporate Affairs, Mrs Myrna
Herbert, in welcoming Dr Todman Smith to her new role, stated: “Dr
Todman Smith’s understanding of the work of the Commission together
with her extensive background in operations, expertise in regulatory
compliance, corporate governance, and financial supervision makes her
an invaluable addition to help deliver on the evolving
responsibilities of the Registry of Corporate Affairs. We are
confident that she will enhance the Commission’s ability to deliver
high-quality services to Registry clients and that she will be
instrumental in helping to ensure that the Registry evolves with
greater efficiency and increased productivity. ” Beyond her
professional career, Dr Todman Smith has served in corporate
governance roles on the boards of various government agencies. She
holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Bellevue University,
an MBA in Finance from Wright State University, and a Bachelor of Arts
in Business Administration from the University of the Virgin Islands.
She is also a Fellow of the International Compliance Association.
